ďI am not alone at all, I thought. I was never alone at all. And that, of course, is the message of Christmas. We are never alone. Not when the night is darkest, the wind coldest, the world seemingly most indifferent. For this is sill the time God chooses.Ē - Taylor Caldwell
Iím not ready for Christmas. Youíre probably nodding your head in agreement. Yes, there is so much to be done. But thatís not it. Itís not the doing detaining me, itís my spirit. Iím not ready to celebrate. I donít feel like celebrating. I have no Christmas Cheer.
There are other people who are missing that happy holiday feeling right now. People who have lost a loved one or people struggling with impossible challenges arenít feeling the glad tidings. Right now my daughter is facing some big challenges due to a poor choice she made. Iíve cried and cried over this. On top of that weíve had some business hurdles thrown in our path. Iíve looked at the Christmas tree that I started to put up and considered taking it down, boxing it away. Iím not ready for Christmas.
not merry, but I am grateful. Things could be worst. My problems could be
bigger. I have many, many things to be thankful for. Several years ago I taught a
kindergarten/first grade Sunday School class. One Christmas I received a gift
from the grandparent of two children I taught. She was raising the children. The
gift was wrapped without using tape, the wrapping paper was folded around the
gift. You see she only had one arm.
Jesus gave us wonderful words of encouragement when he said:
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33
I do have peace. I have peace because I know that God is with me. But wait, thatís not all, God has taken care of the most important thing-eternity. God did this through his Son Jesus and thatís what Christmas is all about. Christmas is the time to remember to be thankful for the gift of his Son.
"For God so
loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life. ďJohn 3:16
I may not have a ďHolly Jolly ChristmasĒ but I will remember and I will be grateful. Thanks for being born Jesus.
