swimming upstream.jpg (143172 bytes)Life is swimming upstream. I remember some time ago my daughter Kelly had a rough day. Last year Tuesdays were her hard day of the week. That was the day of the week when she had the most classes and it would take a lot out of her. One particular Tuesday she had a test and felt that she choked on it. The answers just didnít come to her. Wouldnít you know it, when she left the classroom she recalled the answers. Kellyís IPod quit working, and her DVD player somehow was broke when she returned from her winter break. It was a bad day.

When I feel overwhelmed, I stop and change my focus. I turn away from the big picture or all the stuff I need to do and place my attention on doing the next thing. Just do the next thing and donít worry about all the others. Itís sort of like when youíre running up a big hill, if you look up it seems overwhelming, but if you focus on the area right in front of you there is hardly any elevation change at all and it no longer seems as difficult.

Many times you just have to hang in there, stick it out until change occurs. Rarely is anything forever, especially if you do not want it to be. Challenges come and go and what challenges you today may not tomorrow. If youíre besieged right now narrow your focus. Take the incline out of that hill. Just do the next thing.
